Mt Evans Snow Chute
Coming to Colorado in 1989 and acting on instinct to get to the top of a tall mountain right away, my family to a car ride near the top of Mt Evans. I witnessed a climber trying to traverse the upper reaches of this wide couloir right under the cornice. Unfortunately he lost his footing and fell nearly 300 feet until he came to a stop. His climbing partner raced to his aid and helped him descend to lower elevation and out of bottom of the snow field. He didn't die, but he had to have suffered broken bones. Safety is my paramount focus whenever I am in the mountains.
